  The annual German Market, known as the German Christkindlmarkt and hosted by the Australian German Welfare Society, is also held in the Melbourne Town Hall where you can shop for Christmas gifts and German food at a variety of stalls.

  Built way back in 1870, the heritage-listed Melbourne Town Hall is a beautiful classically designed historical building in the heart of Melbourne. More than just being used as Council Chambers, it is often used as a venue for cultural and civic activities, including theatre, school and headliner concerts (the Beatles performed here), corporate funtions, cocktail parties, weddings, receptions and a host of exhibitions. For example, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is held here.

  As you can see from the photos I've included here, you can't miss this iconic building at this time of year as it's decorated to look like a huge Christmas present. The Melbourne Town Hall, as does the City of Melbourne itself, really comes to life at Christmas.

  A great venue for events. I first went here as part of Open House Melbourne and thoroughly enjoyed walked throughout the side rooms. An even better experience was the mini festival as part of MMW 2017. This should happen more often! We felt so fortunate to be there.

  Grand old town Hall that could do with a modern renovation. Some excellent events are held here, but the building has functional limitations.

  I love the historical significance of this building. Hopefully it'll remain so for a long time.
